It is out of Sony Ericsson’s habit to create specific phone for an operator or a country, of course beside several localized Vodafone V and F-series phones. But now, Sony Ericsson, the Japan-Sweden joint venture, is trying its luck by collaborating with T-Mobile and unveils TM506 on market.
I don’t recognize the basic series of Sony Ericsson TM506. Is it based on latest Z-series? Probably to Z770, but the keypad form is different, more to W980. Yet, the phone will be the first from T-Mobile to accommodate its AWS 3G spectrum.
The phone will have dual-band HSDPA connectivity, 2 megapixels camera, TeleNav navigation, and stereo Bluetooth. Although in its official T-Mobile page, it is still written “coming soon”, the phone is believed to be offered on market at US$ 79.99 after rebate with contract.

It seems like it’s taken Sony Ericsson forever to get the X1 ready. But finally, we’ve got some news - a closed X1 launch webcast is due in roughly two weeks, and a few days ago the XPERIA SDK was published at Sony Ericsson’s developer site, with the press release being published yesterday.
The SDK (software development kit) will allow developers to create their very own XPERIA panels, and test them out in an emulator on the computer. You can check out all the documentation and features of the XPERIA SDK for Windows Mobile over at Sony Ericsson’s developer website. The download is 9.1 megabytes, and can be downloaded directly here.

According to a recent shot of the Sony Ericsson road map, the highly anticipated Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 smartphone may not be ready for consumer consumption until early next year. This is very unfortunate, given the public’s rising interest in smartphones like the HTC Touch Pro, Palm Treo Pro, and BlackBerry Bold.
A product rep from Sony Ericsson confirmed the delay during an interview at IFA 2008, saying that the touchscreen and QWERTY-equipped wonder won’t be shipping until some time in January 2009. The exact cause of the delay has not been confirmed, but the Sony Ericsson rep unofficially pointed toward compatibility issues with Windows Mobile 6.1. I guess the blame can be placed on either Microsoft or HTC on this matter.
That said, if you hop on over to the Sony Ericsson E-Shop, you’ll see that it has the XPERIA X1 listed with an October 2008 launch. Which source should we be believing?

The W890i is Sony Ericsson’s current flagship Walkman handset. With 8GB of memory built in it is designed to meet the needs of the mobile music fan who doesn’t want to carry a separate player but who does want plenty of music at their disposal.
It is a tall order for any mobile phone to manage to combine the best that a mobile can offer with the best that a dedicated music player can offer. And the W980i doesn’t manage to achieve its goal, though it does make a good attempt.
Sony Ericsson doesn’t do many clamshell mobiles. The last one I reviewed was the Z750 and more recently I looked at the lower end Walkman range clam-alike W350. Neither hit the spot for me, and the W980i doesn’t manage to do so, either.
This has nothing to do with the way the phone handles, looks or behaves when closed. The shiny black fascia is far less of a fingerprint magnet than I thought it would be for a start.
In the closed position its 92mm of height, 46mm of width and 17mm of thickness are comfortable to hold and its 100g of weight presents no problems. Yes, the phone is rather thick even for a clam, but it is comfy in the hand and cosy in the pocket.
